A Blog designed for discussion of topics related to, but not limited to, Circus, Zoos, Animal Training, and Animal Welfare/Husbandry. Sometimes opening up the dialog is the best starting point of all. And if for nothing else when people who agree and don't agree, get together and start discussing it, it will open up a lot of peoples minds. Debate and discussion even amongst themselves opens a window where there wasn't one before.

I wonder if this could be hippo Zusha that some Russians had on RBBB Red in 1997-98? She was shown all over the world, and I think she wound up in India. There was a circus hippo over there which was the focus of some animal cruelty charges.
RJR,
That is possible. I hadn't thought of Zusha. That was such an odd deal, and she didn't stay long. I always thought she was one of those deals that was "thrown in". Take these act's and we will give you the hippo, and teach someone to work it. When the Iron Curtain fell, I think there were a lot of animals/animal acts, that were dumped in that boat, and there were a number of "instant" animal trainers that came out of the IC counties. Another "dark" part of circus animal training history, that folks shy away from.
