Michael Jackson wants elephants on O2 stage

A report out of London claims Michael Jackson wants to enter his concerts at the O2 arena this summer atop an elephant, and is looking to book a panther, snakes, tropical birds and three monkeys for the stage show.

An insider told Britain's Mirror newspaper that the animals will be part of a set that will have a jungle, circus and weather theme. Jackson also hopes to secure 100 Masai warriors for the 50 shows starting in July, according to the paper.

“He hopes to make it the most spectacular gig ever," said the source. "For the jungle section, he wants to ride out on an African elephant with panthers led on gold chains. Parrots and other birds will fly behind him. If it goes to plan it will look incredible.”

His managers have voiced some reservations about Jackson's vision, fearing the costs and insurance premiums of such a spectacle would be too steep. There are also animal welfare laws banning the use of some non-domestic creatures in shows.

But Jackson is undeterred. The source added: “He’s desperate to find a way around it.”

In other MJ news, the King of Pop is reportedly very upset with a joke that was made on BBC’s “The Now Show” in which he was compared to the Irish Republican Army.

During a March 20 broadcast, the joke was made, "I can't believe which '80s celebrities I want back less, Michael Jackson or the IRA.”

According to an “unidentified source” who spoke to UPI, “Michael was told about the comments and was appalled… To compare him to cold-blooded murderers is not funny. It’s highly offensive.”

"I wonder what the novelty is with people using the "circus"(Brittiney Spears, etc.) as a theme for their comeback stage shows?"
