The "panorama" concept that Carl Hagenbeck pioneered. As we see by the photo's below even the "Bethlehem" of the moat/hidden barrier animal exhibit has some issues. As the great Hagenbeck was a showman, if he were alive today, I would expect his patch to be "Gosh, planes crash all the time. Why don't you rag on the the Wright Bros.?" An example of how we must adapt and change things on a regular basis, to provide the best for the animals in our care. Get used to the idea of what is "state of the art" today, may be obsolete tomorrow. It might not behoove you to do it on the cheap without a lot of thought and study. The circus "way we have always done it," isn't worth squat most of the time.
