1969 Mexico City. This tiger is named Sultan. This is Hawthorns first tiger act, which Josip trained with 9 animals. I had Sultan in my first Hawthorn act. He gave me my first cornada in 1978, an incident wrongly credited to a tiger named Frosty in the history books.

No he isn't. It was a tough group of cats. A story told many times over the years, later found to be false, were that they were all young, gentle animals. They weren't. They were 2-21/2 year old and up and purchased from different locations. Sheba of 27 year old fame was 2 in 1969. I will post a picture of one of the group Emir, I believe, riding a horse. Standard procedure is to have a young animal on a leash. Josip had to train Emir to ride King, without the aid of a leash.
