A Blog designed for discussion of topics related to, but not limited to, Circus, Zoos, Animal Training, and Animal Welfare/Husbandry. Sometimes opening up the dialog is the best starting point of all. And if for nothing else when people who agree and don't agree, get together and start discussing it, it will open up a lot of peoples minds. Debate and discussion even amongst themselves opens a window where there wasn't one before.

what is that chimp doing? ? ? ? ? lmao

Brad,
It is a behavior/trick called an "iron jaw". Started on the ground, eventually done 30 to 50 foot in the air. I hope that answers your question. LOL And I still think a leopard around GGW's neck would have showed some love in a different way.

Brad:
That question has been asked at the STL Zoo for decades. All we know is Vierheller really liked chimps. Charlie Hoessle's statue has him showing a snake to some kids. On Perkins Plaza Marlin is seen with a leopard cubs and several reliefs of his expolites with animals.
Jim,
Is it not odd given how Marlin is remembered at the zoo, that in his home town city park, the right thing is he kneeling looking of in the distance without an animal around.

They could have done a nice statue of Mr. Perkins with a snake or other animal. Maybe they are saying you know what he did but we know the down to earth nice guy. I kind of like it.
I do with your opinion of Gunther's statue. If you have him in his performance costume you should have Kenny the leopard on his shoulders.
Jim,
Carthage, Mo. didn't know a down to earth guy. He left when he finished military school. They probably only knew a punk. LOL I wish they had put Boss on Congo's back. That would have said GGW louder then Kenny around his neck.
