At the age of 48 Dr. Grzimek and his 23 year old son Michael, learned to fly and bought an airplane and filmed what has be called the most well known, and influential wildlife film ever made, and SERENGETI SHALL NOT DIE was awarded an Oscar in 1959. Michael was killed in a plane crash in Jan 1959 and was buried on the lip of the Ngorongoro Crater. In 1987 when Dr. Grzimek died he was buried beside Michael.
