This is the 10th consecutive winter circus in the current run to be presented in the wonderful Parisian circus building. Each presentation has had a title, this season's translating as "Stars".
As there have been photos and video clips from "Etoiles" on this blog recently, perhaps I don't need to go in to matters that fully.
Hans Ludwig Suppmeier opens the show proper with 3 tigers from Togni's resources, the only prop in the cage other than the seats (which are illuminated internally) being the rotating mirror ball used for the act's finale. The number works smoothly, as it should given that Hans has been presenting it for some time.

Regina Bouglione shows a single horse in quite a short offering, before something even briefer. Valentino Togni-Bouglione (aged 9) and 6 year-old Dimitri Bouglione encourage a Shetland pony to cross its front legs, thus mirroring what thy are doing themselves. Clearly the intention is to introduce the youngest generation to the public. I have no idea of the boys' parentage, but would be interested to find out.
Then it's the turn of Joseph Bouglione to show 3 horses, interweaving in a figure of eight as they progress round the ring, later to be joined by another trio and perform a decent liberty act.

The only other animal act is the angora cats of Vladislav Olandar (often billed as just "Vlad") and partner. The domestic felines work with spirit and enthusiasm, two of them being happy to climb a perch which Vlad balances on his forehead.
Other acts with American interest?
Other acts with American interest?
Alesya Gulevich was on Big Apple a while ago with her elegant hula hoop act for which she wears a long dress split to the thigh, rather than a leotard. Hans Suppmeier was on BAC with a Togni horse act at the same time, which is hardly surprising as he and Alesya are effectively husband and wife. (As a friend of mine puts it rather nicely "married but not churched".)
The flying trapeze act of The Bull Dancers has spent the last few seasons in Britain, and has improved greatly since I last saw it. The leader of the troupe (Chief Dancing Bull, obviously) is American, so the act is regarded as American. Said principal holds a very nice line whilst flying, and throws a clean triple.
Ringmaster is Sergio, who filled that same role when a circus production comprising acts that had competed at the Monte Carlo Circus Festival appeared in America. Hardly a surprise as he had officiated at the Festival from its inception before making the move to d'Hiver, this being his 7th season at the venue.

The building is one that any true circus enthusiast has to visit at least once. It is a beautiful place, with a great warmth inside. The next circus production there will open in October 2009, and if the rumours I've heard are correct, it will be a very strong bill (as opposed to a Bill Strong!). You may care to keep an eye on
Or maybe you won't.

Valentino is the son of Davio Togni and odette Bouglione.
Dimitri is the son of Francesco BOUGLIONE and Irina Bouglione( russian artist)
Merci beaucoup, Jean. J'aime l'acte des chevals de la liberte. Josephe Bouglione est tres beau, svelte, musculaire, et il a un derriere doux.
Marie-Anne
Dion,
I believe you said your leopard ate it.

Wade,
Speaking of Aleycia Goulevitch. I worked with her on Dave and Lois Hoover's (actually it was really Eugene Calabrese) L.E. Barnes Circus in 2001. There was a live band , the deal was you brought your sheet music or you get what the band gives you.Anyways for her they played "Cut the Cake" by Average White Band ,she hated it so much at first, she use to beg "Sluggo",the band leader, to change it. (she had been using typical bad canned crappy music). After a while it became "her music" the bass line played by "Cheese" was over the top and the drummer "Edik" did this incredible drumming .It was true accompiment. It was to me a casebook example of how great music can so make your act shine.
It was only a 5 piece band ,but they were pretty amazing.
Rebecca
Rebecca, did you write all that yourself, or did someone have to help you?
Mary Ann
Mary Ann,

Rebecca
Rebecca, the music?
Mary Ann
John,
Great review once again, thank you. You Brits and your creativity, are so entertaining, "As a friend of mine puts it rather nicely "married but not churched"." LOL
An American circus producer came up with "musical rings"(similar to musical chairs) to describe the mood that day of a lass from your neck of the woods. If it was on her thumb, "angry and it's best you stay away." If it was on her index finger, "jovial and playful." If it was on her middle finger, in combination with a toe ring, "hot to trot, taking on all comers." If it was on the ring finger, "married and not to be bothered." If it was on the the little finger/pinkie, "married, but that's not relevant at the moment. Look for the toe ring, and ring move to the middle finger."
What was the assumption that the head of the flying act was American? If I stumble across someone who has choked on a piece of spotted dick, do I right away assume he is British? LOL
Wade
huh? Mary Ann, I still am confused. Are you being sarcastic?
Rebecca
GENTLEMEN!!!!! GENTLEMEN!!!!!! Quick get a chair, and a front row seat, before the hair pulling and shirt ripping starts!!!! CAT FIGHT, CAT FIGHT!!!!! Yeah, that's what I am talking about!!!!!
Wade
Rebecca, the tusk?
Mary Ann

Rebecca
Wade,
Ask Casey about the ultimate cake, gravel wrestling girl fight of all times!!My only grown up girl wrestling match, I think I won!
Rebecca
Rebecca, you did wonderfully, and I probably could have said it in a much nicer way. I'm sorry.
Mary Ann
Wade,
See! Mary Ann and I are being polite and ladylike.Thank you Mary Ann.
Rebecca
Marie Ann, Comment est-ce vous savent-il que sien derrière est doux ?
Becky,
That was an.....OK girl fight, the cream-dela-cream was you and Annie going at it about female behavior on top of side by side elephants.
I note he seemed to have a hard time working the liberty act, and was playing it very safe and cautious. Possibly the surface was a factor. It was displeasing to watch him call the horse to him at the end, and then back it away with the butt of the whip on the nose, only to call it again, only to "threaten" it again to go away.
Wade
Casey,
Oh yeah The Becky/Annie girl fight on top of the elephants at the back door..yeah that was pretty bizzare..well we worked thru our differences and conflicts and are now the bestest of friends..you have to admit that was a testy weird situation..do you have any tape for that microphone? lol
Wade.
It's a fact that the leader of the flying act is American.
Marie -Anne.
Doucement, ma chere.
