Casartelli Christmas Show

Enlarge these photos and look at the seats. Yet every body will tell you business is great across the water, and only America is struggling.

I would like to see this act live as it looks great in pictures with the production in the ring along with the animals.

I saw the act 4 times. I saw on Monte Carlo in 2007 the Tzigane act and the modern act with lights. And before I saw on Medrano the horses presented by Alfredo Beautour. There was a part of the modern act on the French and the German Tv maybe I can find it if you are interested.

In one of today's British newspapers there's a photo of Braian cassartelli with a lion - and The Pope!

John,
Are you sure it wasn't Braian Cassartelli and Martin Lacey, Jr. with a lion, taken during the Christmas season? Thomas has those photos on his blog. I was assuming they were pitching the Pope to put a word in with his boss, to see what could be done about getting people in the seat's. You get the Pope and God as your promotional department, that's pretty powerful paper. I could imagine them lined up 4 abreast all the way to the Tiber.

I knew it wasn't Martin, but had to check to make sure that it was Braian.

Circus visiting Pope is a circus tradition every year in late January in Rome, with some special performance.
The most spectacular was in mid-80s, when Elvin Bale rigged the trapeze in the Vatican auditorium.

Brian and Martin visited officially the Pope last wednesday with a lion. On circusfansitalia.net you'll find the pics.

John,
Check real close. They both have those skinny little beards now, and look so much alike they are almost litter mates.

"The visit of the Medrano Circus in the Vatican during the Pope Benedict XVI is taking on an almost historic significance."

This quote is off the Italian fan site. Boy, leave it to the fan's to really hang self serving paper, and inflate something.
An "audience" I believe is what John Cuneo had a couple of years ago when he, Herta, the Cardinal from Chicago and a half dozen others were flown by the Vatican to Spain, where they took a cruise ship to Italy and dined with the Pope at the Vatican. What happened here, is called the "entertainment", nothing to do what so ever with "historic." They have "entertainment" at weddings, Bar Mitzvahs etc. In the God Father it was called Johnny Fontaine. Unless you are a devout Catholic, a deal like this is as hypocritical as Peta running a puppy mill. Free press is not historic by any stretch.

John,
This profession can be very embarrassing sometimes. The year Siegfried and Roy had an "audience" with the Pope they sent Christmas cards out with them standing with the Pope. Over the Popes head was a one inch glitter, that's right I said "glitter" Star of Bethlehem, like they used to do on old postcards from the 1800's. I have kept mine all these years because it ranks up there with "illusion 101" and the back hallway friend pictures.
I was a bit disappointed as I would have expected at least one of those embedded battery deals maybe with a blinking Star of Bethlehem that played Away in a Manger when you opened it. I just didn't feel the "glitter" was respectful of the "historic/somber" occasion. LOL

Question? When you kiss the Popes "hand" is it not the Papal "fisherman" ring on his right hand that you are supposed to kiss? Or do you kiss the left hand because it is closest to you? Just curious, as I think I know what was "historic." LOL
