A Blog designed for discussion of topics related to, but not limited to, Circus, Zoos, Animal Training, and Animal Welfare/Husbandry. Sometimes opening up the dialog is the best starting point of all. And if for nothing else when people who agree and don't agree, get together and start discussing it, it will open up a lot of peoples minds. Debate and discussion even amongst themselves opens a window where there wasn't one before.

Any more on Taba?
Who is he, where does he work, who's cats?
Apart from being your amigo is he good, bad or indifferent?
Does he have credentials, has he achieved the standard?
Steve,
Thank you. I have been waiting for someone to address "phony paper" again. It may help when we get going on a valid standard. He is currently on Ringling with Lance Ramos's tigers. He has no more met any standard then I or anybody has. There is none. Because the animals are on Ringling I know for a fact that husbandry wise they are getting the best possible. I have never seen him train only present,(although he came to the farm one year to watch me train) and that is not going to give me any indication of whether he is gentle or hard. He was the first choice to present the tiger act for Hawthorn currently presented by Jurgen and Judit Nerger, but couldn't be contracted.(That doesn't validate him either, because John Cuneo was making the decision.) He has a crazy style of presentation, which I referenced as enthusiasm, that I would feel stupid trying to emulate, but I also would die before I would put on a loin cloth. Would he stop being my friend if I saw him do something questionable to an animal. In a heart beat Steve. But I won't endorse him because he is my friend, because I can't speak to anything but friendship. And until he gets tits and an ass, or a cute charm that floats my boat, that's all I can give you.
Or were you asking about Lance Ramos?
Wade
As a person, Taba is a really nice guy. I interrupted him behind the exercise cage during the menagerie while he was tying a lash on his whip. I asked him what kind of material he used for the popper and how he braided it. When I asked where I could get the thread he offered to braid one on my whip. I still have it today. He gave me the royal treatment--walking me backstage and showing me around--that meant even more to me than his work on the whip!
