This young lady above is Gaby Dew. Was she not the one who did the elephant act on Circus Medrano last year.
I remember when Ringling brought the first "Cossack" act to the United States in 1992, and it caused a great sensation. A dozen riders galloping in and out of the ring, doing dead man drags, and crawling under the horses belly all in a circle at break neck speed. They used a 3 foot tall ring curb that was "banked" on the inside, which allowed for centrifugal force which aided in the success and excitement of the act. I note that the "banked" ring curbs are no longer used, and this act looks like what the "Cossack" act on Ringling has become. More of a bareback/rosin back act on quarter horses/Thoroughbreds/Akhal-Teke horse's instead of Percheron's or other draft breeds. Another example of "the environment" having a great impact on the success of an act, and without that environment you are left with a lesser substitute.

Gaby did not show elephants anywhere last year.
Last Jan-Mar she was with Le Cirque Educatif in France, which is where I've seen Khadikov. In fact it was Duo Khadikov who presented the balancing on a yak, a photo of which Wade posted ages ago.
I assume this is from not wanting to set the rite ring up. On Jordan last spring they had part of that original act from ringling (Ulan the son of original) and they spent two hours setting the banked rubber ring with high curbs. Also Konyot has a banked ring for the cossacks on Universoul. This does take a lot of work to set up and take down, but the act is so much faster when on the rite surface.
Casey,
Other animal acts may object to working in it. It reduces the ring size about 2ft inside diameter, which is why GGW and I had to design the "infamous" hanging seats(which the construction team mistakenly built sideways) on Ringling, which were later used by Graham Chipperfield for his lions.

hey wade but you wouldn't belive this but i have my laptop on the work bench right now and we are building a banked ring curb for Kanat;s act......
BTW
BTW,
That's to funny!!!! Give Kanat and his lovely wife my best. The act his father brought over was one of the best I have ever seen. I had to look after the Stallions as they arrived before the Kadeir and the rest of them. It didn't go well as I didn't speak Kasakstan and the horses didn't understand English.
I remember like it was yesterday, standing with GGW watching the prop crew set up the ring curb in Venice. He suggested it looked like a European ring curb, as tall as it was without 21/2 ft. of dirt in it, and suggested it would be all right for the tigers. We went out back, and came back in an hour later after they had added the "banked" wall and floor. First thing I said was, "I think we have a problem, Boss?" GGW replied, "yes, yes, I think you are right, young man." We had less then a week to get 13 pedestals built, to hang on the ring curb, instead of the 4 legged ones that I had been training the act with. In the rush Hagenbeck Wallace built them "sideways", which was wrong but as it was now show time they had to be used. So don't muck up Kanats ring curb. LOL The pyramid/jump pedestals that they built for that act in 1992, are the ones, that Campolongo is using now in his act, that I pictured here a number of days ago.
