The Aussie sense of humour is sometimes a bit difficult for you foreigners to understand. Only the humourless in this country would take offence at this sign.
One sign that did cause a bit of controversy though was the large sign at the entrance to a drive through Lion Park which read - "Pommys [English people] on bicycles admitted free". It wasn't the Poms who objected - their sense of humour could cope with that. It was some wowsers of other nationalities who demanded that the sign be removed!
Saw signage once on public toilets in a tropical fruit growing area - "Mangos" and "No Mangos".

Mangos!!!!! I gotta tell you, you Aussies are priceless. We North Dakotans live in a frozen desolate wasteland and we have never had that much time on our hands to come up with a thousand different ways to rape our language. It must have something to do with the dusty desolate wasteland. Take a moment and explain to me how you came up with "pommys and wowsers"

Pommy is a name for our English forebears that is derived from either the fruit pomegranite which they used to eat on board ships on the long voyage to Australia to help prevent Scurvy or,the initials P O M E which were said to indicate the words Prisoner Of Mother England in reference to the convicts who came out here as our first settlers.
So where did you get the word Limey to refer to the English?
Wowsers are puritanical do-gooders. What did you call your prohibitionists back in that era?
And mangos - say what you like but we got 'em and you North Dakotans are gunna have to pay for 'em!! I've got a few in the fridge right now and later in the day, when it gets to about 35 degrees Celsius, I'm going to enjoy them.

The term Limey it originated as a term for British sailors.
"The term is believed to derive from lime-juicer, referring to the Royal Navy and Merchant Navy practice of supplying lime juice to British sailors to prevent scurvy in the 19th century."
"The term Limey evolved into a verb "to lime" which means to hang out. The British sailors "Limeys" would hang out in the urban areas when off-duty and patronize the local prostitutes."
It appear Limeys and Pommys had the same origin. I guess Britannia caused some hard feeling sailing around the world and instilling the Queens will. LOL
I really don't know what puritanical do-gooders were called back in the prohibition? Can any body help? God squaders is a term used today for holier then thou's.
