This "trend" in Europe of giving rides barebacked is unbelievable. I don't understand it being allowed. Rides were a relatively recent phenomena in the American Circus, getting real big in the 1990's and I think it is a real new phenomena in Europe Circus, just now becoming popular. Maybe the newness is why it is done this way. They don't realize the potential for disaster.

Wade, I pulled this photo off fotocommunity.de. Vincent sent me the one of them riding outside. I think you are right that the elephant ride is pretty new over there. I hope it doesn't spoil the shows like it has done elsewhere.
Joey,
I not only hope, I pray it doesn't reduce the elephant act in the circus to an after thought. Imagine the Dressage Federation promoting pony rides, and delaying the start of the trial's, so everybody so everybody could get one. Thankfully there is a bit more class in the Federation.
Wade
Elephant rides seem to be fairly new, but horses, ponies and camels have been usedfor sometime now - in Britain at least.
