As we mentioned earlier the great Circus Barum in Germany closed a few day's ago. Their rhino, Tsavo has become embroiled in a bit of a controversy. Apparently he was to go to Circus Krone, which is arguably the greatest circus in Germany with the highest standard of animal husbandry. But because Krone had some troubles with animal rights activists this year and a local German version of the USDA regarding the size of the horse stables and health issues with one elephant, the transfer is in limbo, with the possibility of him staying at the Barum winter quarters.

Tsavo is a magnificant animal. I had several opportunities to see and actually touch it at Barum. Where else but at the circus can you actually touch an animal like a rhino or hippo nowadays? Krone will serve as the best "retirement home" for him.
It is sad that Circus Barum has closed. There was a time when it offered the best collection of exotic circus animals, including a group of performing Persian leopards.
Rhino Tsavo would be an excellent addition to Krone. Off hand I cannot recall it having a rhino in the past.
