A Blog designed for discussion of topics related to, but not limited to, Circus, Zoos, Animal Training, and Animal Welfare/Husbandry. Sometimes opening up the dialog is the best starting point of all. And if for nothing else when people who agree and don't agree, get together and start discussing it, it will open up a lot of peoples minds. Debate and discussion even amongst themselves opens a window where there wasn't one before.

Some great training. I haven't seen this show but did see a video of the water ballet at the Havana Cuba Aquarium a few years ago. I believe it was four swimmers with four dolphins that did a long, involved routine without constant reinforcement. I saw the video in Portugal at a IMATA conference. We Americans found it interesting just to see Cubans. They seemed to learn how to train very well without our guidance. Trainers in Europe already knew the Cubans well.
Jim,
That is very interesting about the Cuban Sea Mammal Trainer? What is their foundation, or the foundation of their learning? Cuba is usually compared right up there with Mexico, and/or Latin America in the hard/tough animal training league.

Jim,
I have looked at this picture many times, and I gotta ask, if you don't call me stupid. Are all of the whales "pushing" or only one, and the rest just following along? Similar to the wheel horse in a hitch? That would seem to be easier, then to think of all 4 of them pushing at the same rate of speed. The whale on the bottom left appears to have pushed his "trainer" crooked or out of line a bit. Also that whale's neck appears to be arched back while the other whales are all arched forward. It may be nothing, but you know me. If it is a training deal, I have to dissect it and break it down into pieces. Then I wait until there is an expert lurking around so I can ask and be educated.
