Alex Lacey

I noted something different in the act from when I saw it in 2006. Somebody watched somebody in the United States, and passed it on. That's great because that is how things evolve.

Where is the head in the mouth behavior?

Read an article about Alex Lacey in which he states that the trick depends on the mood of the lion. If the lion doesn't feel like doing it, the behavior is not shown. http://www.chapiteau.de/hintermzelt/2007/alacey/alacey.htm

Marco,
Wow!!! That is the first time I have every heard anything like that. Thank you. There are a lot of advantages to working with your own animals, instead of somebody else's.

As I've said before on here, Alex is at Heilbronn in Germany over Christmas. The other animal acts involved are his mother, Susan, with sealions, and the Marek jama acts which have been touring with Charles Knie. Hardly surprising as the show at Heilbronn is presented by the guy who owns Cirkus Charles Knie these days.

I gotta say,
This act is very strong. Good tricks, and the animals move good. That said it is a real f%^$#ing buzz kill to go from the two hind leg cats to a mirror ball?!? It is almost like begging for a treat from the crowd at the end of the act. I really like the leap frog, and even like the little comedy with the lion turning on the seat boards. Over all, I think this is a great act. But it would be better without the ball in my opinion.

Casey,
Those sentiments are echoed by at least 8 people that I have talked to. I mentioned the same thing, especially as the lion doesn't sit up. We took a mirrored ball straight away out of Adams act, because the animal didn't sit up, and you just rode around with him. The trick was designed for a sit up, plain and simple. Usually used as a "filler" or "patch" for a weak act, which Alex's act is not.

John,
Looking at the run down that was sent to me, it seems as has been suggested here in the past, only the flying act was not on the show this season. Odd lineup, as it is touted as the 10th Anniversary show. Kinda like the Best 0 the Best Monte Carlo deal a few years ago? And yes, it is surprising as I was always lead to believe the Festival shows were something special, not just a date added to the season route.

Emile,
Damn mate, don't call me mister. We are equals and a part of the animal training brotherhood. All Mr's I ever knew were bloody cow bags.
I will retell a story I told some time ago, about my only mirrored ball tiger. When I was practicing Gunther Gebels tiger act, he said, "Prince(who he had gotten from Charly when Charly retired) is getting old. You should teach one of your young males to do it, in case something happens to Prince." I took every bit of advise Gunther ever offered, so I taught King to sit up on the ball. Lucky I did, because Prince died of cancer just before the act opened on the Blue Show. King filled right in, and the mirrored ball never missed a show. I have never liked "mechanical tricks" and could barely tolerate the up down pyramid of Hawthorns. Gunther felt the same way, although he thought Charlys act was one of the best he had ever seen it wasn't his training style. When Mark took over Gunthers act when I left the show, he wanted to add a bottle walk with a new tiger. Gunther frowned and said, "are you a magician or a tiger trainer?") LOL Mark used one any way but it just didn't "wow" the audience like hind leg walks or action tricks.
