A Blog designed for discussion of topics related to, but not limited to, Circus, Zoos, Animal Training, and Animal Welfare/Husbandry. Sometimes opening up the dialog is the best starting point of all. And if for nothing else when people who agree and don't agree, get together and start discussing it, it will open up a lot of peoples minds. Debate and discussion even amongst themselves opens a window where there wasn't one before.

I think I'm correct that the Vincennes zoo shut down a few years ago. Seems it was run down, exhibits deteriorating, and infested with rats. Sorry end to a once wonderful zoo
Richard,
Old pictures of this zoo do suggest it was a head of it's time for the time. Do you know who designed the exibits? Hagenbeck?
Regards,
Wade
I think Carl Hagenbecks oldest son, Carl-Heinrich Hagenbeck, was consultant for both Bois Vincennes Zoo, and the Zoo in Rome, in Italy. I cant understand why its closed, people say theres political problems, and they will need a strong person to make the zoo come alive again, and it will be costly. Probabaly they are discussing this, again and again, and again...
Paris Zoo http://www.elephant.se/location2.php?location_id=98 last elephants Kaveri and her daughter Nina, were moved to Zoo Le Pal in Dompierre http://www.elephant.se/location2.php?location_id=228 in 2005, where they are kept together with Accra, who came to Le Pal 1997 from Circus Krone in Germany.
Nina had a a daughter, Jade, this year with the bull Chang, born in Copenhagen, and who came to Le Pal 2005 through Chester Zoo.
By the way, do you two gentlemen have Facebook accounts? Theres agroup discussing elephant records, where I would be glad to invite you (and anyone interested in elephant recordkeeping) to join.
Othervise, how can I get your emails?
Dan,
Great information. When you say political are you referring to the social climate of animals in captivity? Most pictures of I have seen of the zoo in Paris show it as a large natural exhibit facility, with normally large herds of animals, always a lot of offspring, etc. I have also seen some that are worthy of closure, that seem to be left alone.
The only way I would ever have anything like a face book, is if somebody showed me how to do set one up. But I would love to hear from you. My email is wburck3@aol.com

The zoo is still in operation. Elephants are on the loan while major repairs are done to the exhibit.
Toby Styles
Toby,
Great to hear from you. I have lost your email, please let me know how your trip went. I'll bet you saw some great stuff.
When you say major repairs, am I right in assuming that the "political" issues that Dan mentions are more along the lines of inept management? Is it a "municipal" funded zoo, where a "strong" individual would have a lot of great help/suggestions/support from experienced/learned/qualified "politicians" who have spent may years in the animal science field?
Wade
Wade-
I want a finders fee. I introduced Dan to your website. What can you do for me? lol
Ryan,
"Finders fee!!!" You ungrateful punk!!!! I introduced myself to Mr. Koehl on the "history channel" earlier this year, when John Herriott brought up "paralyzed beaks" and Dan suggested it may be caused by drinking iron laden water from a hose that hadn't been allowed to run out, and I suggested he may be nut's. Kidding aside, I am glad Dan and his expertize are here.
As for you, Mr. "what are going to give," before I make an offer, what are you going to give me for showing you the talented and beautiful elephant girl, Merry Lu Casselly?????? You youngsters have a short memory sometimes!!!!
Regards Pal,
Wade Burck
Im sure it must have been Copper, not Iron...
:)
Is that Renes daughter? Years are flowing, I remember her as a child.
Did he tour in US?
Dan,
I believe it was Copper. I was just seeing if you remembered. LOL
I am not sure what her father's first name is. What I am sure of is that I saw their elephant/horses at Monte Carlo last year, and although I am only an Animal Trainer, and not versed in "all" the circus arts like the judges supposedly are, I can confidently tell you they got the shit end of stick with their Silver.
Wade
Wade,
My humble apologies. Good to see how easy you stir though. I say we make a new theme day - cute girls working elephants. Then we can all be happy.
Ryan,
Boy are you a piece of work. First you try to shame me into a payoff, and now you are trying to suck up. Are you sure you aren't connected with the St. Louis mob. How abouts if you looked at your last Sheena, Queen of the Jungle from me.
Happy now????
Regards,
Wade
No comment. And thanks, Wade, I think I might just do that! lol
Oh Ryan..Don't you know in this day and age, it isn't PC to call us "Girls, or Broads, Or Chicks"? We are Women. But given your young age, we shall forgive you this time..LOL..And Wade, it seems that the majority of your loyal readers are Women, maybe we could have a treat..May we suggest a new Theme Day..Good looking MEN working elephants..You know from experience we "Ladies" have a passion for elephant men..LOL..
Ryan,
Here's the deal. We'll stick with nubile nymphets to keep down the heat.
Ladies,
You have 3 of the hottest elephant men on this one post. What do you want?
Wade
Three of the hottest elephant men?
Wonder what kinda standard was used to make that proclamation?
Ladies,
Go ahead and score them out if you like, just go easy on Ryan's "indy jones" hat. It may be somehow work related that he is wearing it,,,lol
Enough already about the hat! I might as well be wearing a too-short vest and baggy pants, I can see where this is going. And yes, the hat was work-related. We were doing eight hours of rides on a hundred degree day, and it kept the sun out of my face. You ever feel like your life is going in circles? But I digress, nubile nymphets is going to do anything but keep down the heat, my young age may be teaching me something that Wade has forgotten. Big dog comments now! Casey, that hat's getting me #1
Addendum to my Indy hat, can you not tell by the background I'm in an elephant barn? lol
Yes Ryan,
Hat says elephant man. Pencil thin mustache says, 70s porn star or California highway patrol. I think the combo of the two says Francis Poncherello takes on the zoo,,,lol
