I just received notice of the dates for Chicago. I won't be making it this year, but the consolation is, I have seen it 4 times in the past. If it is in your area, it is something you don't want to miss.
Now celebrating its 16th annual USA tour, Moscow Ballet's Great Russian Nutcracker is beloved by audiences and praised by critics for its unique setting of Act II in the Land of Peace and Harmony. Set against Valentin Fedorov's spectacular scenic design, replete with dancing puppets and a Rousseau inspired backdrop of unicorns, exotic birds and animals, Moscow Ballet's Great Russian Nutcracker is the must-see production of 2008.

Wade, you know that this is dear to my heart. I too have seen the Nutcracker numerous times, and so have my daughter and granddaughter. My daughter danced until she was eight months pregnant with her second child, and my granddaughter has been dancing since she was two years old. My very favorite ballet is Swan Lake, so if you ever get a chance to see it, go. The very best parts are the 32 fouettes in Act 3 performed by the Black Swan, and the poignant ending. I will be seeing Swan Lake again here in January performed by the Rusiian National Ballet Theater.

Amy, you are very fortunate to have a world-class ballet in Seattle. The Pacific Northwest Ballet ranks right up there with the Moscow Ballet and the Russian National Ballet Theater. Kent Stowell and Francia Russell put on fantastic productions! My daughter had season tickets when she was a student there at the University of Washington, and I attended once with her. I understand that they have their own venue now (they used to perform in the Seattle opera house). They will perform The Nutcracker November 28 - December 30, and Swan Lake April 9 - 19. Swan Lake even has Under 25 Fridays for Swan Lake on April 10th and April 17th ($15, or 2 for $25). The Pacific Northwest Ballet is the company performing in "Nutcracker: The Movei". Do try to go if you can.
