Mohini's legacy

Above is a photo of Mohini upon arrival in the United States at Philadelphia, and the two photos below are of Mohini at her home in Wasington, D. C.

Wade, I saw Mohini and her family at the National Zoo in 1970, and yes they were kept in cages at the old Lion House, since this was before the Mann exhibit was built. It's nice that Mohini was able to enjoy her sunset years in the comfort of the Mann exhibit. Joe and I saw her great-grandson Panghur Ban (son of Ranjit) in the Mann exhibit in 1996. He was the last of the white tigers at the National Zoo, and he died in 2002.

Mary Ann,
I was surprised to learn that she was at the Brookfield zoo in 1976. I was in Canada that year where we took delivery of Ika and Ari from Cincinnati, and the following year the facility was built in Richmond, and I went to the Brookfield zoo for the first time. I missed her by that much. Was the construction of the Mann exhibit possibly why the National zoo tigers were also at Cincinnati at that time?

Yes Wade, that is exactly why Kesari, Ramana, and Marvina (Kesari's daughter by Poona) were at Cincinnati. Rewati was at Brookfield with Mohini. I know how you feel, missing them by only a little. Been there, done that too many times, and that's why I go out of my way to see as many members of the traceable descendants that are left.

Mary Ann,
Although some people may object to taxidermy or the mounting of dead animals(I don't) it is more then justified when you view Martha. What I do object to is the wearing of animal body parts in the form of jewelery. I can accept things like bull elk bugle teeth, but things like feline teeth/claws are beyond my comprehension, unless they were taken in a government endorsed hunting program. Taken from a captive animal who may or may not have served you, and "was like a child" to you, is too bizarre and borders greatly on hypocracy.
