A Blog designed for discussion of topics related to, but not limited to, Circus, Zoos, Animal Training, and Animal Welfare/Husbandry. Sometimes opening up the dialog is the best starting point of all. And if for nothing else when people who agree and don't agree, get together and start discussing it, it will open up a lot of peoples minds. Debate and discussion even amongst themselves opens a window where there wasn't one before.

Dont know from where I had it, but from the notes I have about Alice:
After Jumbo and Alice were brought their new stable, Alice cut the tip of her her trunk by accident. The tip was 30 cm, and one kg heavy.

And for sure, her trunk does look a little short on the photo.
Dan,
Brilliant. I did not notice that. But I can verify when you have spent most of your life observing an animal, some can instantly tell when something is off or not right. You have to wonder how it affected here ability to pick up and put things in her mouth.
I had an elephant one time that had a small 1/4 inch hole in the front of her trunk about 3 1/2 inches up from the tip. When she would drink water, and exhale a mist would spray out.
