A Blog designed for discussion of topics related to, but not limited to, Circus, Zoos, Animal Training, and Animal Welfare/Husbandry. Sometimes opening up the dialog is the best starting point of all. And if for nothing else when people who agree and don't agree, get together and start discussing it, it will open up a lot of peoples minds. Debate and discussion even amongst themselves opens a window where there wasn't one before.

I remember when this survey came out, especially Buckles' comment on the STL Zoo act. He was correct, they were very limited in where they performed. I think most of Floyd's reluctance to give the animals any slack was they were all young when they came to the Zoo with little training and experience and a few would run. The act that preceded the group listed was sold to Paul Kelly in 1955. It took Bert Pettus and crew two days to load five elephants and the truck went about two miles before they had to pound the roof back on.
Jim,
No offense to Bert Pettus but there are some that would suggest he was a better elephant man then most because he could weld, and pound trailer roof's back on. LOL Let's just assume the animals enjoyed performing, we like family and let it go at that.
