A Blog designed for discussion of topics related to, but not limited to, Circus, Zoos, Animal Training, and Animal Welfare/Husbandry. Sometimes opening up the dialog is the best starting point of all. And if for nothing else when people who agree and don't agree, get together and start discussing it, it will open up a lot of peoples minds. Debate and discussion even amongst themselves opens a window where there wasn't one before.

Wade,
I noticed you have alot of pictures of zoo animals. We have three great zoos up here in Washington, "Woodland Park Zoo", "Point Defiance Zoo and Aquarium" and "Northwest Trek". Northwest Trek features mostly animals you will find in the Pacific Northwest such as red foxes, raccoons and Mooses. What keeps it running is that you view them from a tram ride. Haven't been here since I was little, but I plan on going sometime in the future, will send pics when I do. Woodland Park and Point Defiance are the big contenders. Woodland park is huge containing many different climate animals including a large savannah housing giraffes, zebra's, gazelles and ibex'. Point defiance is a different experience all together since they have an aquarium as well. They have a vast amount of different kinds of sea horses and their cousins plus a shark tank. Other than fish point defiance also has a Baluga whale, 3 walruses, and polar bear(s) (I only saw one the last time we were there). None of these can be found at the much larger zoo Woodland Park. Next time I go I will send you pictures.

P.S. There is also the Puyallup fair this weekend. Meaning lots of livestock including zebras, clydesdales, and Llamas, if you'd like I can send you pics from my adventure there tomorrow. We have a tasty treat up here called an Elephant ear which consists of fried dough in the shape of an elephant ear smothered in butter, sugar and cinnomin. Now thats what Ringling should serve at their show.
Amy,
The State of Washington has 3 of the finest zoo's in the nation. Seattle is one of my favorites, and I used to enjoy visiting with Dr. Foster, and particularly enjoyed their gorilla exhibit when the Ringling show played in Seattle. Further back on the blog we have some older vintage pictures of the Seattle Zoo you may enjoy. Anything relating to wild animals/horses is of interest to this blog. We have a number of Animal Trainers who participate in discussions, and I am sure they would be happy to answer any questions you may have about Animal Welfare as opposed to Animal Rights.
I would love to have any pictures you may be able to provide and will look forward to hearing from you. I can be reached at

Amy,
In regards to the Elephant Ears, if you could assure Kenneth Feld that it would sell for between 30 and 35 dollars, I am sure he would set up a stand right beside the programs and the popcorn . LOL
Wade
Wade, Amy, let's not forget the clouded leopards at Point Defiance Zoo, and their importance to the survival of the species. The last captive birth of clouded leopard cubs was at PD Zoo over five years ago.
Mary Ann
Wade,
LOL!!!! They sell for about $6 at the fair so my guess is if he is selling cotton candy for $12 he could probably sell them for $15 with a rubber elephant trunk!
My snow cone glass is still in my kitchen, I only wished I would have went and bought it myself so i got the tiger instead of the clown.
Amy,
If you like tigers again read backward on the blog, and you will see some of the greatest White Tigers in the world, plus you and Mary Ann will have lot's to talk about.
Wade
Mary Ann,
I used to be a Ginger firl growing up, but Mary Ann has become my favorite. HAHA. Anyways I think you mean Woodland Park Zoo. As far as I can remember there were only Tigers for Big Cats at Point Defiance, while Woodland is much larger and looking at both sites they do have clouded Leopards. They are really hard to spot since most of the time I have gone they have been sleeping. They also have a humugous Jaguar and everytime I go he is always sleeping up against the glass. I am starting to think he is stuffed! Or just Lazy. My most enjoyable expereice around animals would have to be the safari ride as Disney World. It was amazing and it almost felt like the real thing. Thats when giraffes became my favorite animals. Tigers were my favorite as a kid. I have an old old old ringling stuffed white tiger from about age 4. And every time we go to the zoo I have to get a souvenier and we go to the zoo alot!
Amy,
I am talking about my white tigers, and Mary Ann is talking about the Clouded Leopards, which are now at Point Defiance. If you want trouble, question Mary Ann about where a feline is at in an American Zoo. LOL
Wade
Not looking for trouble. I just cant seem to find any news on them at PD's website and I was there 2 weeks ago and did not see them, but WP has them in their zoo according to their website and from me seeing the exhibit there. So no idea. >_< As for tigers.....
(scurries off to look at old posts)
Amy,
On the right side of the blog, towards the bottom you will see the "manure pile", Scroll down to March 30, that's a good start. If you wonder as you go through about censored commednts that is in reference to Buckles Blog, We don't allow anonymous or cute name posts here, unless your statement may cause you a hard time with an employer or such. We are all friends and feel if you have a comment to make, you should have the courage to post your name. Email me and tell me a little bit about your self, and why you prefer not to use your own name, and I will look forward to hearing from you.
Wade
Amy, if you go to the "manure pile" which Wade mentions and scroll down to August 3, and select the post titled "Asian Exhibit - Point Defiance Zoo and Aquarium - Tacoma, Washington", there you will find everything I know about PD's cloudies, Raja and Josie. It is my understanding that they are currently off exhibit, but there are plans to put them in the Asian exhibit at some point in the future.
Mary Ann
Name is Amy Scott. I don't mind using my full name, Amy Shmamy or just Shmamy is a nickname I picked up in HS. I sent you an email with my history although i am even more complex than what I sent you. I also read about the wire mesh replacing most viewing places. Wade, you really need to see woodland. The tiger exhibit is still unwired, no moat, but a big cliff between the viewes and the tigers. Same with the sun bear exhibit. alot of the reptiles are also in exhibits there with no mesh (excluding the snakes and small lizards) but the tortises are up close and if you really wanted to you could easily climb into the exhibit. Not saying you should, but they are that close to you.
