Speaking of "self serving" paper, and comments so you can "be with it and for it"

The top two pictures are so everyone can follow along, and know what this discussion is about. Two ladies, no mechanic or spotters.
This photo above was posted in response to the photo below, with the comment "With Big Apple we did it without the mechanic." This comment followed, "I remember that, and I was very impressed. Most of the time is with mechanic now, and it appears meanigless to me: aesthetically and in term of ability. Circus is not a mechanical art." FYI, the two men with their hands folded behind their back, under the lady doing the split are known as "spotters". If you have them, as a rule "mechanics" are not necessary. If you don't have the two men, a cable and a belt might be advisable. Unless there is a multi million dollar salary offered, then you might take a chance with death or permanent disability.

Of course there are spotters.
I found spotters much more aestethically pleasant than a mechanic.
I recall this BAC Woodcock performance mainly because it was a perfectly produced act.
I was impressed by this trick because for the first time I saw this done by a perfect, beautiful and talented professional acrobat and dancer.
I saw other times without mechanics, but not with the same grace and lightness.
In the picture that you posted with two girls (an act I know very well) another solution is used, and very acceptable too. You can remark a small black metallic structure hanging above the girls. This permits them to leave for few second their arms from it, getting some more cleanless than a classic mechanic.
And from that picture of course you don't see the spotter in the ring.
Monte Carlo: Wendell Huber won a silver with just two elephants and a dog, in a wonderful act.
Monte Carlo, how rotten can it be, doesn't mean quantity in term of animals in an act.
Of course I will be the first to make a competition elephanta vs elephants, etc.
Let's judge Elvis' quality when he will be there, in January 2009.

P.S.
I've never had the need to bee "with" and "for" nobody, as you can judge by yourself.

Raffaele,
I don't know if they are more aesthetically pleasing, or financially feasible in consideration to salary for performers. I always though Tina Gebel looked good, but I wouldn't tell anybody that because I am an animal trainer and wouldn't know that. 5 NFL quarter backs saying Bret Farve should be in the Hall of Fame probably would know that better then me who thinks he's a bum. I know of 5 wild animal trainers who reviewed a cage act in 2000, and walked away shaking their heads, while a group of fans claimed it was even better then GGW, Baumann, and the Tiger Whisperer combined.
Many of my readers are the public, that we are trying to understand what it is they want. In order for that, I feel they have to understand what it is they are seeing.
Two dogs and an elephant winning silver and Flavio and the Casselleys winning silver, just solidifies the fact that it is harmful to the industry and a self serving spectacle. Of course quantity is not as important as quality, and if there is a 4 clown act being judged against a single clown, that should be obvious. Judging said clown/clowns against Elvin Bales cloud swing, isn't going to be as obvious. Any more then the quality of a Schutzhund is obvious judged againt a dressage horse. Now judge that Schutzhund's quality against 4 body buiders, 1 lady in a bikini, and
12 liberty horses. There had better be some heavy advance publicity and a boat load of double cheek kiss's if that quality is going to be "oh so obvious."

Addendum to Raffaele,
As I have stated, Raffaele de Ritis is possibly one of the fairest impartial individuals I have conversed with. The "with it and for it" was not directed at him by any means. I apologize if you misunderstood, Raffaele. It directed at anyone who makes a statement of greatness or grandeur based on cordiality or whether they are wearing a push up bra or a sports bra. Beatty whites or Gebel spandex. LOL
