A Blog designed for discussion of topics related to, but not limited to, Circus, Zoos, Animal Training, and Animal Welfare/Husbandry. Sometimes opening up the dialog is the best starting point of all. And if for nothing else when people who agree and don't agree, get together and start discussing it, it will open up a lot of peoples minds. Debate and discussion even amongst themselves opens a window where there wasn't one before.

There are so many examples of poor taxidermy in the natural history museums that it makes one wonder if it was worth the loss of life. Also see the post on Monday, August 4, 2008 titled "Ian, even President Teddy Roosevelt was guilty of "over indulgence" on occasion back before.", and the comments.

Mary Ann,
Often times it was a way to introduce the animal to the public. It was the reason for the early success of the circus, taking mysterious beasts into the rural areas, before the advent of TV and videos and movies. Early losses were heavy, and it might have been easier and cheaper just to stuff it and put in the window.
