Here's a couple of "American hillbilly bumpkins" assuming they are "citified European class" because they are attempting the "tag team style" of training. They also have apparently come to the conclusion it is easier to push a wheel barrow with practice meat around the cage, instead of using a small pouch on the hip. That's Ben E. Trumble on the right with the Marcan training hat on backwards, and that's Numbnut's on the left in the stylish training togs.

Alas the photographer did not include the cats in the picture -- who looked a bit bored by the whole thing. Perhaps if we try again wearing Gunther Bras it'll all work so much better.
Ben E. Trumble,
That's how little you know. You apparently mistook a look of disgust for a look of boredom. "I'm not going to pounce on them, you pounce on them." "I'm not going to pounce on them, that would be like playing basket ball with a retarded child." "Well then let's just tolerate them. God, I hope we don't look bored." "Me neither, it isn't becoming in a steel bound den of fury."
Wade
We couldn't find one of them "forky" deals, so we borrowed a pitch fork and set it down outside the cage for someone to step on. We couldn't decide who got to chase the cats, and who got to feed the cats when they stopped. We will get it eventually, and roll overs and hind leg walks be damned, we are gonna have a nice pyramid.
CMC,
You do what you want, but I would let Ben E. Trumble chase. He has the option of throwing the hat at them if they turn back too quick.
I learned my lesson. No more cage pictures. You clowns are like me trying to jump out of the hayloft on my horse, because I saw Roy Rogers do it. Natalie, watch them. Don't let them get hurt.
Wade
I figured the pitch fork was for Nat to chase all the crazed women away after they got a look at your legs....
Margaret,
Natalie chasing the crazed women away???? Way I hear it, she would be grateful for a reprieve.
Wade
We are having a tough time with the two stick deal as well. Which one is the "target" and which one is the "motor"? I am pretty sure if we all used two sticks though, it would take away the advantage all you right handed bastards have over me,,,,,lol
CMC,
The heavy one is the motor, the one with the point on the end is the target. God, please be careful. I have to look, but I think a blog law is you have to pay for burial of any contributers, and with 2 boys in college I don't need expense right now.
Wade
Christ we have it all wrong then, we were using a couple of bamboo shoots and a sheep sorter. This is gonna set back our assimilation.
CMC,
That is exactly what happens when you give a chimp a hand grenade. He thinks he is supposed to pull the pin and hand it back.
Wade
Wait a min.
How does the cat figure out which is heavier and that it should run from that one and come towards the other....
Never mind
Don't answer that, I don't like the answer.
I think we can find some sharp sticks. Will a pool cue work? It was fun to watch the cats chew up that damned bamboo though. We couldn't get to the "moving furniture" part -- the Euro-trash excuse for extra muscle, maybe the ten panel arena was too small, but the cats kept getting the way.
Ben E. Trumble,
If you haven't read Heidigers book, there is deal, called a flight distance, which can reverse into a fight distance in a heart beat. And yes, the size of the environment does play a factor in which reaction you get. Feed them the hat. Ugly ball caps are a dime a dozen. The Curator can give you a boat load. Good rattan isn't so easy.
Wade
LOL. Since Hediger was a zoo guy, I'm guess the heavy stick and the pointed stick might have been replaced with a shovel and rake for "chasing" and "guiding" around the any arenas in Basel.
Ben,
Check in the forward. You will see that he did a lot of his studies, at the circus. And no, it wasn't an American circus.
Wade
Seriously, Hediger's understanding of the ring or the arena as defined space within which trained animals are conditioned psychologically to see spatially confined within an area that normally provokes flight/fight was one of his "breakthrough" ideas. The notion that spatial requires could be redefined in psychologically healthy animals wasn't well understood. Hediger's premise that the act of training and the healthy exercise involved deterred the all too normal neurotic/stereotypical behavior seen in animals held in close quarters remains a valid justification for training.
Ben E. Trumble,
Just as serious. As he defined space, we should have defined "training" long ago, and more importantly defined "who should do it." Then it would have been justified, and not vilified.
Wade
This picture I can relate to!
"Just thought you'd like to see what a tiger trainer's body really looks like.
Go ahead, drink it in. Don't be shy. Looking's for free. Touching's gonna cost you something."
