This year the first ever "Best Circus" festival was held at Circus Globus

This "new concept" in Circus festivals, was held for the first time last month, when European circus's traditionally shut down for a month as business is poor, in Romania at Circus Globus as they have proven their impeccable honor in the past was touted as innovative as a whole Circus would be voted the best, and not individual acts. The "concept" may be new, and the result, given the history of other circus awards festivals was a shocker with host city Circus Globus winning.

The five circus which gathered in Romania were:

Medrano-Casartelli
Busch-Roland
Richter
Moscow Circus on Ice
Bucarest Globus Circus

A pretty good line up, but it is too bad Krone could not have represented Germany but they are one of the few shows that don't shut down. Moscow Circus on Ice is the remnant of the once great Moscow Government Circus but what are you going to do.

Below is the press release:
“5 shows, in 5 different location will compete for 2 weeks in Bucharest, within the period 17th – 29th of June. Italy, Russia, Germany, Hungary and Romania will be present with traveling circuses that are among the most successful circuses from their countries.

All circuses entering the competition are winners of the circus festivals from Monte Carlo and many have won the renowned Golden Clown.

For 12 days, Bucharest will be the capital city of entertainment, of performance and adrenaline

120 shows will be presented to spectators from Bucharest, Ploiesti, Pitesti, Giurgiu, Calarasi, Targoviste, Piatra Neamt, but also for those from cities farther away, as tourist packages will be organized by agencies both to see the shows and to visit the capital city.

For American circus's wondering how to market and getting through the tough summer seasons, check out this piece of smoke and mirror BS. A head to head competition between Lewis and Clark, Culpepper and Merriweather, Circus Vargas, Big Apple Circus, Ringlings Gold Unit, Carson and Barnes, and the Cole Circus. Have it in Hugo in Carson and Barnes tent, so we can guess at who the winner will be, and Hugo can get some of that "tourist package deal." The adrenaline rush sold out 3500 seats in Romania, if the Hugo deal is as successful, next summer New York can be the "capital city" of entertainment(I thought they were?) and let's pump that performance adrenaline into Madison Square Garden.

They even have participation awards, so every body goes home with a little something:
Prizes will be awarded in the following categories:

Traditional show

Modern show

Acrobatic presentation

Animal presentation

Staging

Costumes

Choreography

Design

Music
