Wade, this is the 2004 AZA exhibit award winner. We haven't been there. We would go if it had some of Mohini's and Tony's descendants in it.

Wade, I have been mucking through the Amur Tiger Studbook, and found that there is a celebity resident in this exhibit. Do you remember #4506 Globus, who appeared as a cub in National Geographic? He was hand-raised by Russian Scientist Viktor Yudin, in Vladivostok, Russia, and from there came to Minnesota. He is also the grandfather of the unfortunate #4814 Tatiana, who was murdered in San Francisco on Christmas Day.

Mary Ann,
Yes I knew he was there, but did not realize he was the grandfather of Tatania.
She was not murdered Mary Ann, she was a dangerous animal who had killed a human being, and was a danger to the public. I suggest it was self defense.

Wade, I suggest that she was a victim. Publish the link to this story
http://www.mercurynews.com/crime/ci_9710214
and to Tatiana's official necropsy report:

Let people decide based on the facts. You are the one who says that things should not be covered up or hidden.

Mary Ann,
I am hoping you were not suggesting I would not publish something because it needed to be hidden? I disputed the claims myself after feeding tigers for 34 years. I adjusted their food intake daily, depending on a multitude of factors. The giving of one cup of food or one can daily does not make for a physically healthy animal, and the vast majority of pet's are overweight. Even a horses grain intake is adjusted, as well as elephants, as well as any animal. ie: If a tiger is feed 10 lbs a day for 6 days for a total consumption of 60lbs per week, is it underfed if you feed it 25 lbs of meat twice a week for a total consumption of 50lbs of meat, because it is hot and they are not as active, or in heat and aren't interested in eating. And it is so much more then I have illustrated, with literally dozens and dozens of scenarios.
Why after all these years was there finally something motivated to try to go over the wall, who knows. It can/and will be discussed over and over.
Had the police officer had a tranquilizer gun in the trunk, absolutely it the situation warrants that is the better option.
The situation as I understand it, was the tiger was standing over a body, or in close proximity. Kill it, and kill it now. Don't think twice.
An animal cannot be murdered, and if they are victims, you have to accept that they have rights. And if you accept that they have rights, you are an animal radical/extremist. Animal Welfare is a different deal.

Wade, I see your point. I am an animal welfare person and not an AR nut. However, this incident never should have happened, and had me very upset for a while, and it still upsets me when I think about it.

Mary Ann,
I know you are an Animal Welfarist, which is why you have to keep your human emotions in check. Like the castrate issue which you may not have looked at for the health of the species.
It is my firm belief that the majority of what today are Animal activists/radicals, 20 years ago were Animal Welfarist's such as you and I Mary Ann. They didn't understand and were responding emotionally. The were handled with threats, the finger, suggestions of death, curses, stereotyping of crazy, etc.etc.
They Welfarist became Radicals when they were educated by people who didn't know the answer to what they were being asked, and worse yet "who are you to question" us. Because somebody who knew the basics had taught them the basics of animal physiology, they were on the spot, as that was a lame authority to reference, so they patched with "they are our family" and "I love them, they are my children", thus pulling the trigger that shot their foot. I have been doing a "saloon dance" ever since to keep my foot from being shot. We might be able to get a few back out of that Radical camp, it we quit acting like Radicals. They are animals and they are our responsibility, they are not human and they are not our children.
