While being unique, I am not sure the Egyptian motif similar to what the Berlin Zoo used, was appropriate for "natural" exhibition.

Wade, I don't think that the Egyptian motif is appropriate for giraffes either, but it is still there.

Wade, "Wonders Among Us" states "About 2500 B.B., the first known animal collections appeared in Egypt and are documented in hieroglyphics, according to Jon R. Luoma in his book "A Crowded Ark"...A thousand years later, Egypt sent a trading fleet to today's Somalia and returned with monkeys, hounds, bird eggs, leopards, and a giraffe. Queen Hatshepsut built a park for these exotic creatures. Hieroglyphics recorded the event, including one showing a giraffe in a forested exhibit. These may have inspired the Egyptian motif of the Detroit Zoo's giraffe exhibit."
