New Orleans Sea Lion Pool: This classical inspired pool is still in use. It doesn't meet the current regs. but they added more space. I've seen it but can't remember the current design. At least they kept some of this beauty.

Wade, nice set of Audubon cards. This is the Odenhiemer sea lion pool. It is still in use today, a new modern closed system pool was built in 1986 and the two are connected by a gated tunnel.

Joey, how is Adee doing? Are all his stitches out? How did his root canals go?

Hi Mary Ann, thanks for asking about our boy. He is doing fine, the root canals went very well and all of the stitches are out of the wound. It looks really nice now that the hair has grown back. He is back on exhibit with his brother Bhoja and they both couldn't be happier, except for the 91 degree days of New Orleans summer.

Joey, if I recall correctly when we saw them in 1999, these white tigers swim. Do you keep the moat deep enough for them to swim? Do they swim a lot on hot days?

Yes you are correct, they do like to swim. We normally keep the moat about 5 feet deep, some day days more some less, depends on how well the recirculating pump is working. Though they like to swim on really hot days they seem to just want to come inside and lounge while they watch the keeper work in the building. In the exhibit there is a rock outcropping that is pretty visible. About six years ago the Mammals Curator and my elephant crew modified this area and plumbed in a air-conditioner that blows cold air on this rock. If you would like to see some nice pics of the boys, go to www.flickr.com and search "audubon zoo tigers".
