I have looked at this picture for years and can't figure it out. I have scanned it at 200, instead of 100 so maybe we can answer the mystery. He has balls on his tusks, but they are very asymmetrical, almost like they were added after the picture was taken. The building has been added into the background, and I am not even sure it is the elephant building. The fence is no where near adequate for a bull elephant, the door behind him, I promise is not an elephant door, the window he would tear up, and the tree's look like they have been added. Strangest of all he is standing on a small log, that has red on it, as well as his right leg. I don't see an elephant standing on that small log for any reason. I have always wondered if it was something else he was standing on, and the "log" was added, as much has been added, before developing?

Looks like some pretty sever marks on the foot with no chain - chained by both front feet?
the barn does look big enough to be a elephant barn and maybe the door is on the other side not showing and the log he is standing on could it be to make him look taller after all the log looks over 6 inches . CleanRaul
Which park was this from? Possibly this photo has been altered in so many ways it's become completely meaningless. Where does the chain go? Looks like a scar on right front, but because the tinting was obviously done in processing, can't be sure anything is real. Not the log, not the tree, certainly not the barn or fence.

Ben,
It always looked odd to me, even after I would blow it up and look with a magnifying glass. And just his stance with the front end elevated ever so slight, and the trunk up just so. Maybe its something I have seen
too many times from my back looking
up, but it has always seemed like one thing to me. And the odd caps on the tusks are just strange.
Yes Mister Investigator, we'll answer your questions. No, he's dead. He died of unknown causes.
But we have pictures of him, the day the alleged incident took place. Here they are. Do you see the balls on his tusks? We put those on for safety last year, so he couldn't
hurt our keepers or do damage to the fine building. No we haven't
seen Sam in a week. He just up and
disappeared. Yes Sir well let you
know if he turn up. Have a good day, and let us know if there is any thing else we can do.
I don't know maybe I have just
become suspicious of everything. LOL

hay on it's back, and no hay in the picture - bet it was taken inside the barn
Anonymous,
Very good. I had noted the hay but never placed it in a barn. That makes the standing on the "log" even odder.
