Jungleland--Thousand Oaks, Calif--The predecessor of Jungle Larry's African Safari, in Naples, Florida

Historically trainers used a small square seat, a few still do, and I don't know why. They cause the animal to sit side ways, as seen here, with all their weight on their hips. Mable Stark
Slivers and Jo Madison
Stephano Repetto with Johnny. Lou Regan, the first trainer I worked with came from Jungleland, and he had a picture of this lion, and he said his name was Menalik, so who know's. Jungle Larry had a similar cage for performing with small seats welded on the back wall, except his was rectangle shaped. You had a small 6''X6" mesh window to look out, to watch the cat's. My first tiger act had a swing like this, that I assume Lou had seen at the Oaks. What a piece of crap. GGW improved the idea a number of years later, when he and two tigers were lifted out of the arena on a swing

This Bimbo Jr. should be the one on the Carden herd now. Anyone know anything about this Adel?

Bob,
Thank you. I had never put the two names together. With you and Ryan running the elephant dept., Mary Ann and Paul covering felines, and Ben Trumble wrangling snakes this "Zoo" is getting crewed up.

Wade, if my memory is correct, when we joined Gil Gray, Lou was working three lions, Sis, Nell, & a male named Menalik. Hoover bought the whole kit & kaboodle, didn't Meanalik eventually go to Pat Anthony & become a good door cat????

Billy,
Welcome. That is correct about Lou's Menalick. Lou told me that he was named after the Menalick in this picture.
Stay well,
Wade

I see the Adel question was left unanswered. C'mon folks! This elephant department is slacking...

No, we are just waiting for you to finally get here.

Can someone get Roger Smith on the horn? Anyone have his email address? He helped with the sale of the four to Beatty in 1970.

Wade, why do you refer to Jungleland as the predecessor to Jungle Larry's? I added the four Africans you told me about, plus the African female Congo. I was told Congo went to Peru, but she is listed in the Studbook dead in Texas in 2000. Any ideas?
