A Blog designed for discussion of topics related to, but not limited to, Circus, Zoos, Animal Training, and Animal Welfare/Husbandry. Sometimes opening up the dialog is the best starting point of all. And if for nothing else when people who agree and don't agree, get together and start discussing it, it will open up a lot of peoples minds. Debate and discussion even amongst themselves opens a window where there wasn't one before.

They have several names, Ankus, Hawkus, Bull hook, Elephant hook and most recently "Guide" ,much like a bit or a leash they are used to assist a human in directing an animal most often an elephant but also on occasion a rhino or hippo. With elephants they become the humans tusks and trunk. Most interesting they are some of the oldest metal tools know to man. Most important to me they have been carried and used by some of the greatest people I have been privileged to meet.
They look like some form of a halligan bar that firefighters use.
I don't know about the one on top. The fourth one down appears to be a bullhook. The rest of them all look like livestock sorters.

They are ankuses , bullhooks or guides!!!!!
These peculiar objects look like something used for commanding elephant. I mean like the stick elephant mahouts (handlers) use to make the animals move. I am not sure if the first object belongs to this category.
Just trying.
