A Blog designed for discussion of topics related to, but not limited to, Circus, Zoos, Animal Training, and Animal Welfare/Husbandry. Sometimes opening up the dialog is the best starting point of all. And if for nothing else when people who agree and don't agree, get together and start discussing it, it will open up a lot of peoples minds. Debate and discussion even amongst themselves opens a window where there wasn't one before.

St. Louis had two different northern elephant seals. This is probably number one with Director Vierheller. The second male lived for 14 years which was a record at the time (1970s). I remember a famous, at the time, photo of Moby Dick II swallowing baby ducks that their mother took for a dip at the Seal Basin.
The other elephant seals pictured in Europe were southern elephant seals, the largest pinnipeds.
