A Blog designed for discussion of topics related to, but not limited to, Circus, Zoos, Animal Training, and Animal Welfare/Husbandry. Sometimes opening up the dialog is the best starting point of all. And if for nothing else when people who agree and don't agree, get together and start discussing it, it will open up a lot of peoples minds. Debate and discussion even amongst themselves opens a window where there wasn't one before.

Monte Montana lived about two miles north of my house in Northridge, CA. He was a volunteer with the Boy Scouts of America. When I was about 13 yrs old (1959), I rode my horse to his Ranch up on Devonshire Blvd., and he signed me off on my Horsemanship Merit Badge. I was thrilled to meet him. His daughter also went to my elementary school, and he would occasionally bring his show to our school playground.
fond memories for sure!!
He was a great friend to Rex Rossi, we visited him often. Monte was a great promoter of himself and became famous when he roped the president of the US in the Rose Parade thereby shocking the secret service.
He kept himself in the spot light and he has to be admired for that. He was not as good a fancy roper of those of his time but his self promotion took him farther than the actual talent of those better than he. He was a very nice man and his costumes were beautiful, he deserves the recognition he gets.
