A Blog designed for discussion of topics related to, but not limited to, Circus, Zoos, Animal Training, and Animal Welfare/Husbandry. Sometimes opening up the dialog is the best starting point of all. And if for nothing else when people who agree and don't agree, get together and start discussing it, it will open up a lot of peoples minds. Debate and discussion even amongst themselves opens a window where there wasn't one before.

Fredy Gafner ??
Greetings,
Rob.
this looks like Freddy Gafner
surely fredy gafner, I don't think it are the Hagenbeck winter quarters but it can be ?!
Thomas
They were Erie Klant bears.
In his last wil,Erie left the bears to Fredy.I believe they toured South America later.
Rob.
Rob,
Are you suggesting there is a small chance John Cuneo may come up with a little something for me......If it's tiger's, I don't want them, but cash, real estate, or property would be most desirable and appreciated. :)
Wade
Well Wade,time will tell.
Rob
Rob,
Yeah, right.....Let's both hold our breath.

Thomas,
this is most likly Carl Althoffs winter quarters. The first four bears where brought to animal dealer Verena Hochner in Ulm, But Ulm city counsill did'nt want a large steel arena to be ercted by her farm so Erie Klant try to move the bears to his former home the city of Valkenburg, but Valkenburg city officials also rejected. So relutantly Erie Klant and Fredy Gafner moved to Carl Althoffs winter quarters in Osnabruck
I mixed up Hagenbeck and Klant. Of course this where Erie Klant bears, then he gave them to Fredy Gafner who brought them to Mexico (Suarez) were he trained also a lion/elephant act. A son of the direction took over the polar bear act and Fredy Gafner presented the horses for a long time. In 2003 Suarez gave the bears away to different zoos because of PETA. The bears were about 17 years old at that time.
Thomas
Not a circus bear, but.....

Anonymous,
The article quotes that the bear's have a "hot poker" pushed through their nose to make a hole for a control rope. It also quotes that "forcing a needle" is the method used. What's it going to be? Hot poker or forcing a needle? Pick one, any one. Nothing like a bit of "drama" to further a lame cause. Most likely they used Satan's weapon of choice, the evil bull hook. Animals don't have right's, not unless they are made to accept responsibility for their action's. No more "accidents". Try them in front of a jury of their peers. Find them guilty or innocent and convict them accordingly. Collect their tax dollar's first, then we'll see about their "rights."
Wade
pretty hefty rope, so I'll go with the poker option
