Vintage Ringling Bros. Circus

1930 half tone print above and below

Halftone - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

1935 half tone print

The half tone above is interesting in that the arena is at the end of the building and there are elephants in it. I assume this is a spec picture, but it also looks like there are elephant tub's in the arena. Does any one know if the elephant act worked in the arena, or were the tub's just used for a few mount's during spec?

Wade,
If you look very carefully, you can see the painted design of another ring curb beyond the arena yet. This is a staged photo as the audience is all looking towards the camera as well. The spec was the Durbar of Delhi.
The 1935 program does show a very similiar photo without the spec going on. It's very grainy but it appears to be performing elephants in all four rings shown including in the arena.
Display #4 simply says The Elephants, Ponderous Pachyderms with trunks full of new tricks, presented under the direction of Edward Doherty.
