A Blog designed for discussion of topics related to, but not limited to, Circus, Zoos, Animal Training, and Animal Welfare/Husbandry. Sometimes opening up the dialog is the best starting point of all. And if for nothing else when people who agree and don't agree, get together and start discussing it, it will open up a lot of peoples minds. Debate and discussion even amongst themselves opens a window where there wasn't one before.

I have never seen a fence that low for zebra. When they do not have exercise time are the animal tethered or returned to the transport vehicle?
Are these only menagerie animals or do the giraffe and zebra perform an act in the show?
Radar,
That's because in the few years you have been around, you think you have seen it all. LOL None of the animals are tethered and they have pens in the menagerie tent of the same height. Yes, they perform in the show. The zebras with 3 Bactrain camels, and the giraffe do "giraffe" things. They go in the ring with 4 knock out women and get on platforms and kids come in the ring and hold a cookie in their mouth, so the giraffe can kiss them. I have convinced Josip, the talented young man who presents the liberty acts, that he can ride the bull into the ring for the start of the horse/camel act, and Sunday we are going to start working on it.

I guess I should have specified, I have never seen a fence that low for zebra in a zoo (or in pictures anywhere). I saw a zebra clear a 9 foot fence once trying to get at a camel. Scary stuff. I wish I could experience the show you are working on. It sounds like something out of days past, but with present day animal care.
