A Blog designed for discussion of topics related to, but not limited to, Circus, Zoos, Animal Training, and Animal Welfare/Husbandry. Sometimes opening up the dialog is the best starting point of all. And if for nothing else when people who agree and don't agree, get together and start discussing it, it will open up a lot of peoples minds. Debate and discussion even amongst themselves opens a window where there wasn't one before.

Odd looking position for the animal's tooth. I wonder if it grew naturally that way or if some kind of accident/fight caused the misdirection in growth.
Radar,
I have seen this kind of growth in several hippo's,I think it could be genetic as all the hippo's have been in Australia and are related.Recently at Western Plains zoo,not Werribee,Wade,an old friend of mine has managed to condition 2 bulls to have their malformed tusks accept a hacksaw blade to cut them and over the ensuing months has manged to return them to a more normal size.I will try to get some pics of his work and send them to the blog.
Cheers
Glenn
