A Blog designed for discussion of topics related to, but not limited to, Circus, Zoos, Animal Training, and Animal Welfare/Husbandry. Sometimes opening up the dialog is the best starting point of all. And if for nothing else when people who agree and don't agree, get together and start discussing it, it will open up a lot of peoples minds. Debate and discussion even amongst themselves opens a window where there wasn't one before.

My first trip to San Diego was in the fall of 1970. It was a zoo trade of sorts. I started training two young elephants in the CZ and Bennie Kirkbride showed me a lot about sea lion training. The baby elephants were kept in a small room behind a small yard -- probably only OK for animals not more than a year old. Last time I saw it it was a wombat exhibit, a better fit.
Jim,
I don't know if it is true or not, but I heard you were traded for two pot bellied pigs, a coatimundi, and a suger glider. A number of folks today still claim that San Diego go stiffed.

What do you mean "the CZ," Jim?
Radar,
CZ = children's zoo. The elephants were Jean and Joan. Joan died in the early 1970s but Jean was at the SDWAP in the elephant show. Might still be there.
