A Blog designed for discussion of topics related to, but not limited to, Circus, Zoos, Animal Training, and Animal Welfare/Husbandry. Sometimes opening up the dialog is the best starting point of all. And if for nothing else when people who agree and don't agree, get together and start discussing it, it will open up a lot of peoples minds. Debate and discussion even amongst themselves opens a window where there wasn't one before.

They did the ride and a show in the elephant exhibit in 1964 when I was a frequent visitor from near by Fort Sam Houston. I think this elephant came from Pigeon Forge Game Park -- where before that? The keeper/trainer was Raymond Vigeroa (?).
The Studbook lists an elephant that matches Jim's description:
GINNY / JENNY
Birth - ~1955
~09/1957 - RA Miller, Pigeon Forge, Tennessee
~01/1962 - Rider Animal Company, Brooksville, FL
01/23/1962 - San Antonio Zoo, Texas
Death - 05/04/2004
A Bandwagon elephant census ( Mar/Apr 1960 ) states Miller acquired her from importer Fred Zeehandelaar. Chang Reynolds records state V. Rider purchased her in 01/1962, who sold her to the San Antonio Zoo later that month. Murray Hill records state she was 7 years old and 6 foot tall at the time of sale.
This is LUCKY, not GINNY.
