that is count beketow and his wife Edith on Mills Bros. circus. Horse is Duke also one of the sorrel liberty act. Edith Beketow was previously married to Gautier, who was horse trainer on Ringling in late forties and died of cancer. They had two children, namely Axel [elephant trainer] and Ingebord Rhodin, wife of Trolle. Beketow and Edith also had a son who now lives in Sarasota.respectfully, john herriott

There aren't many photos in existence of the once notorious Ma and Pa Kettle Equine Fantasy Revue. Thanks for posting this pic.

Col. Herriott,
I didn't realize Axel's father LuLu Gautier was on Ringling. I thought he had only performed on foreign shore's. Thank you for the information, as well as the insight on Beketow. Was he really a "Count", or a Count like Julius is a "Baron"?

On my first year with GSOE the great P at Valdo told me that he thought LU LU Gautier was the finest horse trainer he knew

The grandchildren of Edith still operate a circus in Scandanavia and the lady is an excellent equestrian.

The horse Duke was trained by Beketow and did a complete first rate High School routine. After Beketow the great horse trainer, Carlos Carreon rode him on Mills Bros. and then yours truly. I had him introduced as the "Duke of Paducah" and gained some noteriety back in those days, especially with high trot on the hippodrome track to "Toreador" nice memories some fifty years ago. johnny

Beketow was from a prominent Hungarian circus family and prbably Mills Press dept. made him a count. I believe he was aided in his training exploits by his wife Edith who according to those aware that she was an excellent equestrian trainer, etc.johnny

Anonymous,
Dammit, all due respect, I wanted to be the first one to wish the Illustrious, Infuriating, Infamous, Irrational, Immortal Col. John Milton Herriot a Happy Birthday, but you had to cut in line.
To make it right, I am going to wish him my best first, and then post your comment after mine. I am the trail boss of this wagon train, so I can do things like that.
With the greatest respect and admiration------HAPPY 80TH BIRTHDAY ON JANUARY 15TH, COL. JOHN MILTON HERRIOTT. THANKS FOR THE MEMORIES, AND I WILL LOOK FORWARD TO 80 MORE YEARS WORTH. A SPECIAL THANKS FOR PERMITTING ME TO BREATH A BIT OF YOUR RAREFIED AIR.
