Marineland of Florida--A look back 1972

I first saw Marineland in 1973, and to quote Jim Alexander, " I saw with my own eyes the old circular pool where the jump shows took place. The photos of "trainers" in sailor suits holding out fish for the dolphins to leap for -- classic." Years ago, I assumed that the "inspiration" for the naval uniforms/costumes worn by the Marineland staff was because of their close proximity to water thus the tie in. As I have gotten older, I have to wonder if it was not Marinelands close proximity to the Jacksonville Naval station, which was the inspiration. Back in the day, it must have been a wonderful outing for Naval personnel returning from month long tours of duty, to take there family to Marineland.

If the theme park industry ever gave an award for innovation it would have to go to Marineland in 1966 when they mounted the SkyWorker over the circular oceanarium. That was the first time a hydraulic device was ever used in an upside-down position.
