When I visited Cologne in 1989 the four elephants indoor exhibit was a rather small area about two feet off the floor. There was a light barrier but I wondered how often animals got knocked down to the ground. They all looked good -- nice to see the much improved facilities.
A related exhibit of Indian rhinos was even more amazing. Nice outdoor but the rhinos were contained by two "hot" wires and heavy glass panels.
