Oppenheim Park on Niagara Falls Boulevard (US Rt. 62) in Wheatfield has all the usual trappings of a public reaction area.
But hidden among the overgrowth, down an abandoned road in the south east section of the park, are the remnants of the Oppenhiem Zoo, which closed more than 20 years ago.
Since then, an entire generation has passed with barely any knowledge of the place.

I remember the little zoo very very well. We used to walk there and take a loaf of bread to feed the animals. The monkey house really smelled bad! The playground used to be in front by the road and have these chains you could swing on when we were young. We spent many days there with my family .
