A Blog designed for discussion of topics related to, but not limited to, Circus, Zoos, Animal Training, and Animal Welfare/Husbandry. Sometimes opening up the dialog is the best starting point of all. And if for nothing else when people who agree and don't agree, get together and start discussing it, it will open up a lot of peoples minds. Debate and discussion even amongst themselves opens a window where there wasn't one before.

Wade, didn't Andre start training Arabs in NC or somewhere like that?
Gary,
He was actually an equine veterinarian before he went to Ringling. He dealt almost exclusively with Arabian horses, training as well as doctoring. We used to have some pretty heated "debates" over where the better stallions came from, Poland or Russia. LOL Andre was a great guy, classy and elegant, and had a fast exciting lion act. He was a lady killer, to end all lady killers. When Andre hit a women, it was a clinic, school was on, and you stood back and took notes. We used to lay odds with him, on how long it would take him to get "hooked up". He never lost, we always paid up, and the toughest nut I recall him cracking, took him a total of 22 minutes. A beautiful dark haired girl from Muskegan, Michigan named Amy.

Hi Wade,
I'm Andrea Skarbecki... Andre's daughter.
I was wondering other than being his wig man, how well you knew him, family wise. My father kept a lot of his family history secret and he passed away before I could really ever ask him.

Andrea,
Wig man? :)

Andrea, I worked with your father at Sitting Rock Arabian Farms in North Carolina in the late 70s. He was kind and generous. I was an apprentice there. I knew that he had joined the circus after the farm, but I have always been curious about where life took him, as he was a larger than life figure. I remember one time our cook quit, and he cooked steaks for all of the apprentices! The owner of the farm could not have cared less about us, but Andre always had our well being at heart. Feel free to contact me at MKJensen1960@gmail.com. I have a couple of pictures of him in a brochure I have kept all of these years. Melissa
