Martin Lacey Jr.

We were welcomed into the trailer and life of Martin Lacey Jr., the lion trainer, yesterday. He travels with 17 lions and 12+1 of them (13 is unlucky) are in the show. Such huge, intelligent and beautiful animals. I don't think they could find such love anywhere else. As he says, "It's my life, not a job". He told the story of on one show the circus put him in a hotel too far away from his lions, so took a sleeping bag and slept in the cage with his largest white male lion, one he has had since a baby. He explains, if they are unable to be in the wild, the circus is a much better place for them than the zoo. Here they have something to do, they are intelligent animals and don't want to lay around all day bored.

"Why is it always necessary to knock or downplay the importance of another animal industry, in order to validate animals in the circus?"

My congratulations to Martin Lacey with his new act and his golden clown award at the MC festival. His new act looks good with the white lionesses in it. Impressive pyramid with all the lions and also a beautiful sit up from the lionesses. Hope to see this act this season at Circus Krone.

Wade I have sent you couple of mails; did you reveived them?

Thomas

Thomas,
Your bias is showing!!!! What was "impressive" about the pyramid. I thought we discussed pyramids in the past. What was it that made the sit up more beautiful then any other sit up. What were the muscle tricks in the act? Without the white lioness what would have made the act standout against other act's today?
No, I did not receive the emails or any lion and elephant pictures from you vacation.

Okay Wade I'll sent you a new mail ! The pyramid is impressive because of the light, music and the number of animals impresses me. 13 animals is a big number momently. And the sit up is more beautiful then the others cause they sit up very fast, make a fast turn and then sit back up very fast. The muscle trick is I think the reverse jump over over three lionesses and maybe also the lioness who jumps over him. But Martin is a great presenter, has beautiful animals and together with the music and the light I think he has one of the best acts available.

Thomas,
You said "new act". That sounds like the old act, with the exception of the reverse jump over.

Okay, new act is maybe not the good work. Let us call it with the young animals in the act.

Interesting informations.
Avoiding the boredom of Monaco in the last years I can't judge. But I must assume that adding young animals into an act gives you automatically a second Gold Clown.
If they miss the talent to find yearly new acts to fill the show, at least invite the past Gold winners to perform as guest stars out of competition.

And, in the same time, is possible to exclude from the cornucopia of gold/silver/bronze the greatest tightwire dancer in the world, the heir of Colleano (the case of marvellous French artist Julien Posada).

Raffaele,
How many "past Gold winners" have been invited to perform out of competition? It seems to me to be the same self serving debacle that it has been for the past 20 years, with an "illusion" of achievement. If Thomas likes white cat's, he need's to look at how well white tigers have been received at Monte Carlo in the past, instead of 4 champagne lioness.
Looked to me like the exact same act, with the exception of the reverse jump over, of which three have been done since the mid 90's and 5 was done in 2006(there was a picture posted a few weeks ago, Thomas). I even think I have seen the costume before, so I wonder how the act rated in the "costuming" category, or "content".

The other Gold clown, Chernyevsky teeterboard, also got a Gold ten years ago.

The Duss otaries won a silver already in the past.

By another side, Flavio Togni or Stefano Nones won both three Silver each, but with three completely different acts.
