This has got to be a very exciting happening for the European Circus Fans, even given it's smallness and abbreviation of what once was "The Greatest Show on Earth." To give you an indication of the state of affairs of circus, note the cage act will be "either" lions or tigers. Used to be you knew, in addition to the act being the best, what the act was.

What is the point of this? If you were taking some huge 3 ring extravaganza to Italy to show off the Greatest Show on Earth, I could see it. But a short program of acts that have already been touring in Europe for years....why do it? I hope the publicity wasn't too exaggerated, otherwise this show is going to be a big embasrrassment for the Felds. Can you say BOMB?
I haven't understood it either. The only way it makes sense is if the American circus's have been conning us about how good business has been, and this is an effort to go to where supposedly the good business actually is.
I had a friend email me a couple of months ago, after seeing the blue show. She said, "The kid's and I saw that circus you used to be with last night." I emailed back and said, "I don't know what show you saw, but nobody has seen the circus I used to be with for 2 decades." LOL

When was your last year with Barnum? Just wondering who I actually saw in the cage act when I was younger. It may have been Gunther Gebel Williams, but not positive. I think I was between the ages of 3 to 5 at the time so.....that would be..... fall '90, '91, or '92. Most likely 91 or 90 though.

It is Ringling Bros.Barnum and Bailey, or Ringling Bros. Not Barnum. I was there until 1994. So if it was the fall of 91, it was not me. I didn't start the new tour until 1992. Besides if it had been me, you would have never forgotten. I was that memorable.

I apologize for the Barnum reference, realized my mistake as soon as I hit Submit.
As for memorable, I barely remember anything from that show other than sitting in one of the front rows and being absolutely amazed. I do know I took home a stuffed white tiger that night though. As much as I begged for the next 10 years to go again, I didn't get a chance until I was around 16. Put a big impression on my life at such a young age. I think that was the moment I fell in love with tigers.

I was mistaken before. I went to the circus twice as a kid, both times at Key Arena in Seattle. My mom says we saw Gunther Gebel William's Farewell tour which would have been 1989/1990 if I am not mistaken. I would have been 2 maybe 3 at the time. Then we went again and saw the white tiger act another year. Were you the only white tiger act at Ringling Bros. Barnum and Bailey?

That was Sara the Tiger Whisperer, with Josip Marcan's tigers. But again you would have know the difference. My hinny was much cuter then her's. At least that is what Josip told me.
