Vintage Giza Zoo 1913

Jumbina, a male African elephant, was purchased for the National Zoo in July 1913. The elephant, a keeper, and two African buffalo were photographed in the yard of the Government Zoological Garden in Gîza, Egypt. William H. Blackburne, the Smithsonian's first zookeeper, took this photo during his travels to foreign zoos in the spring and summer of 1913.
