Carl Hagenbeck--David Hancocks

While it is generally accepted that Carl Hagenbeck, above, revolutionized zoo exhibit design worldwide with his moated tier park in Hamburg, I think we are remiss if we do not give David Hancocks, below, the same credit for re-revolutionizing and taking to another level, zoo exhibit design worldwide, starting with the gorilla habitat at Seattle's Woodland Park Zoo in 1979, and inspiring N.C. Zoo' Watani Grasslands, Bronx's Tropic World, as well as every major zoo exhibit for the past 30 years.

I have been to Woodland's Gorilla exhibit many times and it is by far the main attraction at the zoo. Doesn't matter the weather or time of day, each viewing area is always crowded.
