Does anybody know the year of this photo or the elephant? She looks in rough shape.

A Blog designed for discussion of topics related to, but not limited to, Circus, Zoos, Animal Training, and Animal Welfare/Husbandry. Sometimes opening up the dialog is the best starting point of all. And if for nothing else when people who agree and don't agree, get together and start discussing it, it will open up a lot of peoples minds. Debate and discussion even amongst themselves opens a window where there wasn't one before.

Without the benefit of looking up the exact dates this may be an elephant sold to an auto-thrill show from the St. Louis Zoo. The STL Zoo had an act with 8 baby elephants that debuted in 1955. As they grew 8 was a crowd. Three were sold around 1960. I believe two were sold to the Cristianis and one, who the story goes was blind in one eye, went to the thrill show. Maybe they figured she couldn't see the car coming.
Could be another elephant on another show but I was first. Happy Birthday Wade
Jim,
Great information once again. So what if it is wrong. Remember the circus motto: Never let fact's get in the way of a good story.
Thank you.
Wade
