A Blog designed for discussion of topics related to, but not limited to, Circus, Zoos, Animal Training, and Animal Welfare/Husbandry. Sometimes opening up the dialog is the best starting point of all. And if for nothing else when people who agree and don't agree, get together and start discussing it, it will open up a lot of peoples minds. Debate and discussion even amongst themselves opens a window where there wasn't one before.

I had a look at the web pages. Thanks for digging them out.Is it common practise to clip the foals now for photos as they were left natural, obviously groomed for presentation to clients. It was Sadik that was bred when I worked there and I have a scar on my finger from Simeon Shai when he was a younger, less wiser stallion as I was.Cheers.

Glenn,
As "horse training" advanced, and Arabian's became more numerous,(just being Arabian used to be good enough) it has become common practice to clip the foals from the chest to the wither's, neck to the nose, to show more refinement. Sometimes done at 3 weeks, but I prefer to do it when they are weaned, as part of their handling. The two fold purpose is to get them used to things, like clippers, etc. at an early age when they are easier and safer to handle, then resorting to lip chains, twitches, or doping to get it done on a yearling or two year old.
Simeon Shai!!!!! How small of a world is it Glenn? I currently have a Simeon Shai daughter, Shai Valentina, whom I have just weaned from her Simeon Shai grand daughter, whom I named Tewfina combining the father's name MS Tewfik with the mother's name Shai Valentina. We will have a colt at the Egyptian event named Almost Human, whom I renamed Trojan, who carries Simeon Shai blood. A beautiful potent stallion, who's get carry his typey head.
